Driving-under-the-influence conviction will take a heavy toll on your finances and you’ll be levied with big
DUI penalties. Even if you didn’t hurt or hit anybody, you’ll end up paying around $10,000 by the time you pay your bill, bail charges, insurance etc. Apart from the financial losses incurred, think about the hassle and the harm it does to the injured person. The DUI costs for first time offender can be divided into four different categories:
1. Bail Charges: Once you get arrested, you need to shell out a lot of money for bail. This could range from anywhere between $200 and $2000. These charges could be more for repeaters.
2. Towing Charges: Your car gets towed after you get arrested. You need to pay around $100 to retrieve your car. However, if you are in Chicago, you’ll have to pay $1200 for first 24 hours and $50 for each extra hour. If you do not retrieve your car after 30 days, it is auctioned.
3. Auto Insurance Charges: Once convicted for DUI, your insurance charges might double or triple for that matter for at least three years.
4. Attorney Charges: Any attorney fighting your case would charge a minimum of $250.
